International Day of the Seafarer (DotS) is celebrated each year on June 25, and this year, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is calling on everyone to get on board with this year’s theme of #seafarersarekeyworkers.

This year, perhaps more than ever, seafarers are playing a vital role in keeping the world going during COVID-19 – whether that’s by transporting goods, including food, medicine and vital equipment around the world, keeping Guests and each other safe on cruise ships, and of course, for continuing to keep our ships running while in layup. This year we’re celebrating DotS to shine a spotlight on our crew who continue to play key roles as we adapt to the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation.

In his Day of the Seafarer message, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim highlights the unique and essential work of seafarers. “Just like other key workers, seafarers are on the front line in this global fight. They deserve our thanks.” Read Mr Lim’s full message here

Over the past few months our on board colleagues have embodied our Carnival UK values as they worked tirelessly to support Guests on board to get them safely home in an environment which was rapidly changing. Not only that, but supporting each other during these uncertain times, often when loved ones were so far away.
