  • Finance & Legal 2023 Q4 Awards

    Team Winner:

    Accounts Payable – Financial Operations

“Shona’s team have gone above and beyond in supporting Princess Cruises on multiple occasions some of which have been time pressured and challenging. They have always been supportive in listening to challenges we face to work with us to develop solutions which have the best outcome for all teams with the companies best needs at the heart of outcomes whilst protecting our people and the law. We were at risk of not having media live during an agency transition and payment timeframe and processes weren’t in our favour, Shona’s team worked hard to offer timely solutions around the best way to approach protecting our media plans and activity helping us to achieve payment in time to support our campaign activity.

The risk of not having media campaigns live during a RTTL campaign push would have certainly had a negative affect so we are grateful to the team for working with us for a solution.

They are a pleasure to work with, always responsive and willing to help. We look forward to continue to working with them to help moving forward with improving together.”

    1st Place

Andrew Smith – Assistant Financial Accounting, Regulatory Reporting

“We recently discovered an overdue tax return and payment which could have caused issues across the Corporation. Despite it not falling under his remit, Andrew took responsibility for investigating, setting up payment which involved creating Portal logins, liasing with the authorities to ensure payment was successful and then following up with the relevant business area to ensure learnings and improvements could be put in place going forwards. The business area was very grateful for all of Andrew’s support and it really demonstrated a great can do attitude. Thank you Andrew”

“When reviewing our alcohol duty charges for Alaska it was uncovered that the Port tax submission had not been made or paid for 2022 or 2023 to date. The Alaska authorities were looking in to proceedings, which would have drawn down on the bond we have in place as a Corporation to be able to visit US Ports. Had this happened the entire Corporation would have been prevented operating in the US until another bond was secured which can take 6-8 weeks. Within one day Andrew spoke with the authorities, set up an online portal and got these submissions in and paid on behalf of the Ports team to avoid any further action. Andrew then worked with the Ports team explained the severity and supported them in setting up the Portal and putting controls in place to ensure this was not forgotten in future. In addition Andrew is now working with the team to ensure no other Port tax submissions are forgotten, while also setting up additional back up controls to check and support while the team get their controls up and running. No only did Andrew prevent a potentially catastrophic impact to the whole Corporation but he strived to assist another team in learning and improving all while building great relationships both internally and with the authorities. The business area was very grateful for all of Andrew’s support and it really demonstrated a great can do attitude. Thank you Andrew”

    2nd Place

Oliver Evans – Finance Senior Manager

“I’ve only worked with Ollie for the last 7-8 weeks, but he’s wowed me on every interaction. Ollie is dependable, super quick to support and offer his guidance and expertise and has been influential in the early success of the Drinks Package Project. When Ollie talks, people stop and listen with his natural articulate and influential style and he has a natural ability to provide steer in a effortless way.  Ollie has gone over and above his role many times since working together where he played a crucial part in securing funding for the fulfilment work we need to do onboard. He also provided some key modelling with little to no time that has played a big part in shaping the whole drinks package project. I’ve really enjoyed working with Ollie, learning a lot from him, and I’m incredibly grateful in having such a brilliant finance business partner.”

“Olly is part of the Emergency Response team in Finance. During the August Quarter end an ERO was called when Olly was on duty, when due to pass this over Olly insisted he was right in the middle of it and going to continue to its end in order to protect myself at our quarter end period. This is just one example of Olly going above and beyond to support colleagues with his contentious behaviours. Whilst on the team Olly has had more than his fair share of ERO activity, yet when it is not his responsibility and it falls to another, Olly is the first to offer support and guidance, sharing his experience and strengthening us as a team. Thank you Olly for respecting and protecting us as a team.”

    3rd Place

Georgia Bird – Accounts Payable Team Leader

“Georgia is continuously looking to learn & improve ways of working within AP. She was new to business this year & has been able to improve various processes. She is a great leader for her team & challenges the more long-term colleagues in all the right ways to help improve efficiency”

“Georgia went above and beyond to communicate the correct procedure for submitting supplier invoices, as well as rectifying the issue with a current supplier invoice. The invoice was the first one that the supplier had sent us, but in order to get it paid on time Georgia talked me through what needed to be done to rectify the situation and reduce the delay to the supplier as much as possible, whilst also sending me the correct procedure so we don’t run into difficulties in the future.”

“We now feel more confident and empowered when investigating month end queries and George always is on hand and has clear and easy communication to help us navigate through and challenges we face. It has improved our ways of working moving forward with the support from George so a huge thank you for his continued efforts and help to the team, it is very much appreciated.”
