Carnival UK is on a journey to improve our HESS culture from compliance to commitment. Over the past 12 months you will have seen some initiatives to help us on this journey, including the upgrade of our Safety Feedback stations to HESS Feedback stations – the HESS Feedback station allows anyone to submit a Bright Idea to improve our systems and ways of working.
Tim Newman, Hotel and Operations Retail Manager for Oceana (P&O Cruises), submitted a Bright Idea to rename the Garbage Rooms to Recycling Centres on board. This will be rolled out across the entire Carnival Corporation fleet over the next few weeks.
As with all Bright Ideas, this suggestion was presented to the Carnival UK HESS Committee. The Committee saw it as extremely innovative and relevant to enhance our commitment to environment excellence and complement other environmental initiatives. It was shared with the other Brands and all have agreed it should be implemented.
As a result, the fleet will have all Garbage Rooms renamed ‘Recycling Centre’ in time for Global Recycling Day on 18 March 2019; with a special ceremony on board Ventura (P&O Cruises) on 12 March 2019 with VIPs from around the organisation including Josh Weinstein, Stein Kruse and of course, our colleague who suggested it, Tim Newman.
