Mid-year conversations are a great opportunity to take time and space to reflect on all the incredible things you’ve achieved so far, as well as look forwards to the rest of the year.

These conversations take place throughout May, the mid-point of the year. It’s important to record your conversation in the Mid-Year Conversation document available on myHR portal and update your goals as needed.

Preparation is key for having quality conversations. Here’s how you can get ready:

Review your achievements

Before your meeting, take time to reflect on your achievements by reviewing the progress you’ve made against your goals as well as your performance more generally.

Consider any challenges you’ve encountered, how you’ve overcome them, and your key learnings.

Consider the ‘how’

Don’t just focus on what you have achieved, think about how you’ve achieved it and the behaviours you’ve displayed. Use our Culture Essentials to support you.

Asking your peers to provide you with feedback is another way you can assess your strengths and development areas. You can request feedback via myHR portal.

Focus on the future

Look ahead and identify your focus for the rest of the year and any support you’ll need from your manager.

Think also about the development you need to support your growth and career aspirations, using the guidance here to help.

Don’t forget to share feedback with your manager and how they can best support you. Click here to learn how you can make the most of it and here for some practical advice.

Update myHR Portal before your meeting

Capture your comments within the mid-year conversation document on myHR portal and submit this to your manager before your meeting, so they have chance to review beforehand.

Are you a people manager?
To support you in understanding the 3-point scale better, we’ve created this 3-point scale guidance document. You must take time to read this ahead of conversations with your team member/s to ensure your time spent together is effective and valuable.

If you’d like some guidance on how to lead the performance conversation itself, download this guide to help you prepare. Don’t forget to add your comments to myHR portal and submit the document to the individual to complete the process.
