Over the last few weeks, you’ve looked towards the future and you’ve set your goals for the year ahead. It’s now time to think about the development you need to help you get there.

There’s no one more invested in your development than you, so you don’t need to wait for a formal review to have a conversation with your manager about where you’d like to grow.

Download the development planning guide

Development doesn’t have to be big, long term, or complex. Click here and follow our simple five step plan. The plan includes example activities that will move you ahead as well as some ideas on where you may want to focus.

Ideally your development should help you to… :

  • Deliver your 2023 performance goals,
  • Live our Culture Essentials, or
  • Get you closer to your next career step.

Talk to your manager and make time in your next 1-2-1

We’ve simplified how we formally review performance and so in 2023, there’ll only be two formal reviews, Mid-Year and Year-End. This means your development should form part of your 1-2-1s and be an on going, open conversation with your manager.

Your manager will support you to grow, however you should be driving your own development. So, carve out time in your next 1-2-1 and use the guide to help you lead the conversation.

Are you a line manager?

You can help your team member take an active role in their development. Read the manager guide here to help you do this.

What’s next?

  1. Download and follow the development planning guide
  2. Lead a conversation with your manager in your next 1-2-1
  3. Make a record of your development so you can track your progress. You can do this in the myHR Portal using this quick reference guide.
  4. Keep your development alive by reviewing your progress during your 1-2-1s
  5. Remind yourself of our Culture Essentials so you can start to think about how you can grow and shape the right behaviours to be the best you can be.

If you have any questions please speak to your manager.
