As Heroes of safe and well we all have the responsibility of checking in on others mental health as well as our own mental wellbeing. At Carnival UK we’re passionate about supporting everyone to be their best selves and encouraging everyone to look after one another.
On the 10 October 2020 we’ll be joining millions of people around the world to recognise World Mental Health day, this year’s focus being Mental Health for all.
More than ever it’s important we look after ourselves and support those around us, paying attention to how we all feel, think and behave. This year we have all experienced rapid change from adapting to ongoing home working; adjusting to the changeable landscape of what we can and can’t do; the wearing of face masks and the ongoing sense of isolation, all amidst the backdrop of an increasing rise in cases of Covid-19.
Here’s what we have planned for 10 October to help you focus your mind on your mental wellbeing;
Set yourself a physical challenge
Many colleagues have taken on a variety of fitness challenges in the past few months, from cycling lengthy distances to setting running goals and achieving them. Setting challenges is so good for your mental health, not only keeping your body fit but giving you a real sense of accomplishment and achieving what you may have once thought impossible. Read your colleagues stories here and get inspired.
It doesn’t have to be extreme, just keeping your body moving can have significant benefits to our mental health. Why not set aside 30 minutes by yourself or with colleagues, family or friends (virtually or socially distanced) to try one of our workouts.
Check-in with a colleague
We believe everyone should feel able to be their true selves and talk openly about their mental health without fear of stigma or discrimination.
On 10 October we encourage as many of you as possible to take a virtual (or socially distanced) tea break with a colleague/s, family or friends you haven’t heard from in a while. It’s your opportunity to check in with them and make sure they are okay.
Equally, if you are struggling and don’t feel comfortable sharing how you feel with people you know just yet, our team of trained mental health first-aiders will be available for you to speak with instead. Reach out here if you ever need to talk. You can also find all support information available to you here.
Fundraise with your own Tea and Talk activity
This year the Mental Health Foundation is hosting a campaign called Tea and Talk. The aim of the campaign is to get more people interacting with one another and sharing mental health stories to help create better mental health for all.
Come together and host your own Tea and Talk with a sweepstake, quiz or socially distanced bake off (other ideas also welcome!) All donations raised will go to the Mental Health Foundation working to help people improve their mental health and recover from mental illness.

Whatever you choose to do on 10 October we want to know about it. Every small step we take as individuals can help create better mental health for all. Share your activities on Instagram @CarnivalUKComms #WorldMentalHealthDay
