Today’s International Data Protection Day, when companies carry out activities globally to raise awareness about data protection and privacy rights. Here’s what we have going on to raise awareness of Data Privacy:
- You’ll have seen the email from Sture today reminding each and every one of us to contribute to Carnival UK’s privacy and data protection. Check out Sture’s message here.
- Have you ever thought about how some movies portray privacy? Our Privacy Team share their favourite movies and explain how these expose data protection. Is your favourite movie amongst them? Find out here.
- Last week we asked you for your questions on data privacy – you can find all Q&A here.
- Test your knowledge on Data Privacy, by taking the official International Privacy Day quiz here.
Top five things you can do to help the Privacy & Data Protection Team
- Making sure you get things to us quickly, we have a legal obligation to resolve issues within certain timeframes, for example we only have 72 hours to report a data breach. It’s always better for the privacy & data protection team to be aware of an issue before it escalates! You can report any data related complaints, concerns or queries in person or by emailing us at Privacy@carnivalukgroup.com.
- Know and own your data, it’s important that you know what data you keep, why you keep it, where you keep it, how long you keep it for and how you get rid of it. We’re always available to help if you need support or guidance.
- Be vigilant and double check information, the most common mistakes we see are caused by incorrect details being entered and not double checking. Cut and paste is also a repeat offender on this one! Take a few seconds to double check to avoid making a mistake.
- Our culture essentials are key to every aspect of our business, data protection is no exception. We’re a compliance driven organisation and the culture essentials reinforce that. It is all our responsibility to comply with data protection laws and regulations, even when sometimes that means we need to achieve our goals in a different, compliant, way.
- Know the value of your data! I know it’s hard to believe, but data is considered the most valuable commodity in the world, surpassing even fossil fuels and gold. So, imagine you had a gold bar, you’d look after it, keep it safe, secure and be careful with who you let look at it. Your data is even more valuable than that gold bar, so, make sure you’re looking after your data, our colleagues’ data and of course, our Guests.
Thank you for taking the time to get involved in data protection day and remember if you ever have any questions or issues please contact the privacy team at: Privacy@carnivalukgroup.com.
