It’s the second ‘S’ in HESS, but what exactly is Security?

There are four key areas that fall into Security and all are equally important in helping us move to a committed HESS culture.

Information Security: Important information comes in many different forms, for example: digital data or printed paperwork. We all share confidential business information every day in many different ways, even our conversations include information we need to think about before sharing.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you always think about what you are saying, who you are saying it to and where you are when you say it?  We should never discuss confidential information about our business, our colleagues or our Guests in a public space, or if we’re not required to as part of our role.
  • Do you always remember to put paperwork away after use? We must make sure confidential information is kept in a secure place and is not left in public areas.
  • Do you always think about the type of information you send in email? Think about what could happen if that email was forwarded on to someone outside of Carnival UK.

Carnival UK trusts us all to be responsible with their business information, so we should always be thinking about information security.

Cyber Security is about protecting ourselves and Carnival UK from disruption, theft or damage to our computer systems, software or electronic data.

Have you heard of Phishing? It’s the most common cyber threat because it’s designed to look like a genuine communication from a company we use, such as our bank or social media site. It normally asks you to ‘click here’ to provide private or sensitive information. If you receive an email like this, always ask yourself:

  • Do I know who this email is from?
  • Does the email address look right?
  • Should I be providing the kind of information that is being asked?

If you receive a Phishing email to your corporate email, report it by emailing ITSupport@carnivalukgroup.com.

Physical Security

Maritime Security keeps you and our Guests safe. The Security team work to stop unauthorised people or items coming on board, but you can play a role too. Working and living on board means you know your ship well and can easily tell when something isn’t right.

  • Is there a bag in your work space that doesn’t belong to you or your colleagues?
  • Is a Guest behaving unusually and not letting anyone into their cabin?
  • Have you seen someone you don’t know in ship’s company areas?

Report anything unusual to your Security Officer and let them investigate. Even if it turns out to be nothing, they will appreciate the information and know that you are taking security seriously.

Shore Side Security keeps you, our visitors and contractors safe whilst working in our offices. We’re hear to keep everyone safe, and you have a part to play too. If you notice a door being left open that should be closed, please close it – particularly off the balconies or if you see any faults please report them to the Facilities Team either by emailing Facilities.FaultReporting@carnivalukgroup.com or calling urgent faults to extension 5057.

Remember:

  • Never share your MiFare pass
  • Always have your Laminex and MiFare pass with you at all times
  • If you see someone you don’t know, or someone acting unusually please feel free to challenge them, or alternatively contact the Facilities Team to alert them.

If you spot something wrong or out of place, let the Facilities Team know so they can look into it.

Data Privacy:  Privacy means protecting information about yourself and others, and choosing who you share that information with. Data protection laws set the rules on how people can process personal data, and gives rights to people whose data is being processed. (Personal data includes details such as your name, address, employment history, dietary requirements, cabin number and family members.)

Carnival UK collects and processes vast amounts of personal data about our Guests and colleagues and we all need to make sure that we keep that data safe and secure, for example, storing the Guest or ship’s company manifest is in a safe place and only sharing it with colleagues who need it to do their job.

If personal data is stolen or misused we will lose our trusted reputation as a holiday company, and we could be told to stop processing personal data – this will seriously impact the services we’re able to offer. If you have any questions or want to report anything, please contact privacy@carnivalukgroup.com

Meet the Data Privacy team here!

Further Information will be coming soon!  So look out for ways in with you can get involved and find out more about Information Security over the next few months.
