At Carnival UK we’re committed to providing a safe and healthy environment where all our people can achieve good physical and mental wellbeing.
On 10th October 2023 , World Mental Health Day, the Medical Team on Britannia organised a Mental Health Awareness event for colleagues onboard. They shared some useful tips on creating awareness and reminded colleagues of the resources and support available to them and their families.
The people team ashore also organised Mental Health Training sessions for anyone who wanted to get a better understanding of mental health issues, encouraging open conversations about mental wellbeing in the workplace. Training covered informative topics such as the signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses, such as anxiety & depression. It also covered what support to offer to someone who is struggling with their mental health and how to support colleagues with mental health challenges.
22 crew members completed the training and found it to be very helpful. They reported learning a lot about mental health and feeling more confident in their ability to support themselves and their colleagues. Currently Britannia there are 32 Mental Health Champions! Well done Britannia.
Mental Health Support available:
MHFAs: At Carnival UK, our Mental Health First Aiders and Champions are colleagues who’ve volunteered their time to take on the role of listening and signposting people to support when they need it. They are committed to raising awareness, reducing stigma and discrimination, and engaging our people in positive mental wellbeing. For onboard MHFA’s speak with your HR Manager or look for details on your crew noticeboard. You can find your shoreside MHFA’s here.
Health Hero: You and your immediate family have free and confidential access, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to Health Hero, your Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). Onboard colleagues can find out more here. Shoreside colleagues should click here for more info.
Tranquil Tides: Shoreside colleagues can also take some time out in Tranquil Tides, our new wellbeing space. A calm, quiet corner of Carnival House for you to reflect, take a moment, and disconnect from your day. You’ll find it on Floor 2, at the front of the building (looking out at the Quays Leisure Centre).
