This September, we’re focusing on ways we can be active to improve our wellbeing.

Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety, but even slower paced activities, such as walking, can make a real difference. Find out more about what’s on over the next month to help you be active.

Carnival House Cyclists breakfast – 14 September, 08:30 – 09:30, The Atrium
Join your fellow riders in The Atrium for a Cyclists Breakfast! Tea, coffee and pastries will be provided as a thank you for cycling in, and a chance to exchange your funniest cycling anecdotes.

Finally, Keep your eyes peeled for some upcoming improvements to our changing and shower facilities in the Undercroft at Carnival House at the end of September.

Get to know your numbers – W/C 18 September, The Atrium.

Knowing your numbers means taking action to measure and understand important statistics about your health such as your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and body weight. Having these checked regularly and knowing what they mean is a great first step toward better health and wellbeing.

The Occupational Health and Wellbeing team will once again be setting up a health kiosk in the Atrium during w/c 18 September, and encourage anyone in Carnival House to pop by for a confidential health check. Learn more about your numbers related to cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, and body mass index (BMI).

The team are also offering free face to face Cholesterol tests on Tuesday 19 September between 9-4pm and Thursday 21 September between 9-3pm in Greenland room. Book via the form below:

Be Active Menopause Café – 19 September, 12:00 in Rotterdam.

Join us in person or online at our next menopause Café! We’ll be joined by Amy Walsh and Gemma Padington, who are both personal trainers with over 10 years’ experience. They are really passionate about exercise during this stage in our lives and will be talking about the importance of strength training through the menopause and what kind of training we should be participating in. Save the event to your calendar.

Being more active everyday and making some simple changes can make a big difference!

  • Take the stairs instead of the lift
  • Go for a walk at lunchtime
  • Get off the bus one stop earlier than usual and walk the final part of your journey
  • Walk into work, perhaps with a colleague – so you can ‘connect’ as well
  • Cycle! If you haven’t cycled into Carnival House before, email the Carnival House inbox for information about accessing the undercroft, showers, lockers and access rights. There’s also a friendly community of Carnival House cyclists.  Click here to join their group on Teams.
  • Do some ‘easy exercise’, like stretching, before you leave for work in the morning or try out this kitchen workout!
  • Walk to someone’s desk instead of sending a Teams message or emailing
  • Try out a new exercise class online – here’s some free workouts from the NHS
