Men’s Health Week (12 – 18 June), aims to raise awareness of the health issues men face, and encourage men to take better care of their health.
Did you know?
20% of men will die before they’re old enough to retire.
Men have a higher mortality rate for many leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries.
Men are less likely to seek medical attention and are 32% less likely to go the GP than women.
Men are at higher risk for certain types of cancer, including prostate, colon, and lung cancer, and they are 67% more likely to die from cancer which impacts both men and women.
75% of all deaths by suicide are male.
But, by adopting healthy behaviours and seeking medical attention when needed, men can improve their health and live longer, healthier lives.
Know your numbers
Getting your numbers checked regularly and knowing what they mean is a great first step toward better health.
We’re offering a drop-in clinic for blood pressure checks with our Occupational Health Nurse. When your blood pressure reaches unhealthy levels, it can lead to cardiovascular disease, which is often symptomless until something serious happens – like a stroke or heart attack.
You can drop inbetween any of the below times:
Monday 12 June between 12:30 – 16:00 – Greenland (by the Tech Bar on the ground floor)
Tuesday 20 June between 14:30 – 16:00 – Greenland
We’ll be offering further Know your Numbers checks later in the year for all colleagues.
Have an annual health assessment on us
To help support your wellbeing, we provide regular health assessments for all colleagues. After your first year with us you’ll receive an email (to your work email address) inviting you to book your first appointment. After your first appointment, you’ll then be invited every two years if aged 45 and under and annually if aged 45 and over. Please see the my benefits booklet for further information.
Did you know you have access to a Digital GP?
We know it can sometimes be difficult to access GP services when you need them. With our Digital GP benefit, you get free around the clock access to GP video consultations, menopause services and repeat NHS prescriptions. What’s more, you can also use the benefit for any dependent children (under 16 years of age).
All you need to do is download the Aviva Digital GP app from your Appstore and use the code 568435.
Supporting your mental health
