Following Sture’s email yesterday, thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our Carnival UK Pulse Survey in March. The response was outstanding with 91% of colleagues taking the opportunity to Speak Up.

Your feedback makes a real difference in helping us understand your experience of working here, learn more about what we do well and need to hold on to, and of course, the areas where you most feel we need to make improvements. Since then you’ll have heard about the results for your business area via your Employee Experience Groups (EEGs) and had the opportunity to feed into action plans based on your feedback.

So how are we doing as a whole organisation? Here’s an update…

What matters most to you

We’re really pleased to see that our Carnival UK employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) is 30. We track this by including the question: “On a scale from 0-10, how likely are you to recommend Carnival UK as a great place to work to a friend or colleague?”. This score is a significant increase from pre-pandemic levels and higher than any Pulse Survey since.

It is however a slight decrease since the last time we asked the question as part of our Hybrid Working Survey in February, when the score was 37, and we’re working with your EEGs to understand the reasons for this.

It’s great to hear that the majority of you feel supported and cared for by your colleagues and line managers, and that you’re excited about our brands and are proud to work in the industry. Many of you also recognise us as a business with good values and told us that this is important to you.

Areas for improvement

The main reason we heard for people not having the best experience, was heavy workload. You told us that it’s been challenging to manage ‘business as usual’ as well as additional workload caused by the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on our business. You also talked about how we tend to take on too much and get excited by new projects, rather than prioritising and focusing on operational excellence.

Please be reassured that we’re focussed on doing everything we can to ease this pressure. Since the survey, we’ve recruited 121 brand new roles to support you and, to supplement the conversations that you’ll be having in your areas about prioritisation, we ran a Leaders Exchange about prioritisation and a Power Hour focused on balancing activity and productivity. You can find out more about our latest learning opportunities in our Shore Learning Guide.

We had mixed feedback about hybrid working and wellbeing and you’ll see the work that has gone into improving the experiences of both. For example, we’ve added new hybrid working spaces in Carnival House and invested in hybrid technology, as well as launching our Good Day at CUK wellbeing hub which offers a whole host of resources to help support your wellbeing.

Sture Myrmell, President of Carnival UK said:

I can’t say enough how grateful I am to each and every one of you for your hard work and dedication. As always, we’ll continue to listen and learn from what you tell us, so please continue to Speak Up and keep the conversation going. Have a chat with your Line Manager or Head of Department or please feel free to reach out to me any time.”

What happens next?

Your EEGs will continue to update you on action plans and what’s being done in your area. We’ll then run the survey again in September to check in on how we’re doing.
