Recognising and rewarding our colleagues for their brilliant work is so important – it helps our people feel motivated and valued and creates a positive place to work.

Just like our shoreside Culture Essentials Awards, P&O Cruises SHINE Awards spotlight our fleet colleagues who demonstrate excellent examples of supporting our Culture Essentials, as well as those who deliver exceptional service to our guests.

We caught up with the team on Iona who’ve proudly shared some of their recent shining stars

Zachary Marsh Rees, Pool Supervisor
“Zachary takes pride in his role and is a very visible presence around the pools, racking up an impressive 40,000 steps a day! He takes care to keep pool areas tidy and looking nice for our guests, as well as mopping up water on the deck to keep the area safe.

He regularly makes contact with the Bosun when he thinks the movement of the pool is unsafe and recently reported that one of the whirlpool spas was leaking so it could be fixed. Well done Zachary!”

The Deck Seaman Team
“The Deck Seaman do an amazing job at keeping Iona fresh and clean. While many colleagues are going ashore, the team are busy painting or washing Iona. They do this with a friendly smile and greeting and their hard work, together with their ever shining attitude, should be recognised. They bring the SHINE to Iona! Thank you team.”

Glenn Acido, Deck Team
“When off-duty, Glenn took time to ensure that all pool railings were appropriately secured in the Beachcomber Pool following a recent near miss. In doing so, he spent a notable amount of time in the pool, in cold temperatures, when alongside in Southampton.

Glenn’s contribution had a positive impact with respect to both safety and the environment. By ensuring that the railings were re-secured he minimised the risk of future near misses. And by willingly carrying out the job with the pool full we were able to save water instead of emptying and refilling it. Thank you Glenn!”

Desmond Pereira, Housekeeping
“Desmond was nominated by over 130 colleagues for his ever helpful attitude. Desmond has been the main “Go To” person for Indian crew members who were leaving and did not have access to a company computer or internet to be able to complete their necessary documents. He assisted all leavers complete their arrival requirements, going above and beyond to support his colleagues.

As well as this, Desmond readily assists all new joiners and makes everyone feel welcome and at home – he is the epitome of Culture Essentials on board Iona. Thank you Desmond.”

Recycling Centre Team
“The team showed their dedication to Respect and Protect the environment, manually segregating 12 cubic metres of waste that was all mixed up, ensuring it could be landed safely ashore in Southampton.

They go above and beyond on a daily basis in a challenging work environment and deserve to be recognised. Thank you team.”

John White, HR Manager
“I was in port manning in Cadiz which is a popular port amongst the crew. As I was on-duty I was unable to go ashore and get some things that I needed.

When John came to know about this from me while we were chatting, he went out of his way and brought the items back for me. This was such a nice gesture and really shows how much he cares. Thank you John.”

Congratulations to all of our fantastic winners and thank you for all your hard work.

Remember to recognise each other!

Do you know someone who’s demonstrated an outstanding example of bringing our Culture Essentials to life, or delivered exceptional service for our guests? Show them some appreciation and nominate them for an award…

Don’t forget both fleet and shoreside colleagues can nominate each other too!
