Fishing is a pastime enjoyed all over the world and is also a global industry.  For example, did you know that last year UK vessels landed 623 thousand tonnes of fish with a value of £831 million?

In contrast, did you know that cybercrime is estimated to cost the UK economy £27 billion per year, with an average cost of £3.9 million to a compromised business.

Phishing is the number one tool used to cause those breaches, and is so-called because criminals will cast out huge numbers of emails full of click-bait.  They try to create a sense of urgency and prey on you being busy, distracted and not checking carefully before unwittingly taking the bait.

It’s really important, when things look a little phishy, to take a moment to pause and look for those tell-tale signs.

If you see a link – think – is this a phish?

If you suspect a phish, remember to use the ‘Submit a Phish button’ (situated on the top right hand tool bar of Outlook).  This will report the email to our IT Security Team immediately.

To support your phishing knowledge, a reminder that Carnival UK released a Phishing Policy addendum to the Acceptable Use Policy in April 2022, which you should familiarise yourself with.
