As we look to return to service we need to be mindful of data usage on company mobiles and the associated costs. There are two data usage situations which we would like to highlight…
Data Usage on Shore
Although some personal usage is allowed on a company mobile, it should be limited and you should avoid applications which use high volumes of data such as Netflix, Amazon Video and Spotify.
Using company mobiles as a hotspot is only permitted for short periods if required for business purposes and should be turned off after use. When the hotspot is left on permanently, previously connected devices, such as your laptop, can connect when you are working from home causing high spikes in data. Please note, if you work from home the expectation is that you should be connecting to your home WiFi and not your mobile hotspot.
Whilst in Carnival House please use the free Carnival House WiFi where possible.
Data Usage at Sea
We are currently charged very high rates for mobile data usage whilst at sea. Connecting at sea links to the Maritime network and costs considerably more than on shore. We ask that anyone using a company mobile at sea ensures that the mobile data setting is switched off when the ship sails and is out at sea. If your phone is required for business use during this time you can ask the IT Technician onboard to connect your phone to the ships WiFi.
The Technology Team receive individual daily usage reports which enables us to monitor high data usage but the costs will have already been incurred so we need your help to ensure these are kept at a minimum.
