As some of our ships head back into service, we’re looking to create a series of mini challenges, collectively named ‘Come Cruising with CCS’, between now and the end of the year that are linked to their itineraries which will help us all stay healthy, both mentally and physically. Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of rest in between to avoid challenge fatigue.
Our first challenge – chasing Costa Smeralda
Costa Smeralda is currently operating a 7 day round-trip Mediterranean cruise from Savona, visiting Rome, Naples, Sicily, Sardinia and La Spezia – the total distance for this trip is approximately 800 nautical miles, or 1482KM.
How will it work?
We’ll create teams made up of willing volunteers from various locations and departments. Each team will then need to agree on a team captain and team name.
As a team you will work together to complete as many rotations of the full distance (1482KM) as you can between 28 June and 18 July.
You can run, walk (walking around your home, the shops, whilst carrying out your inspections onboard etc. all count!), cycle, surf or swim the distance. You can literally do whatever type of activity you like, even hoovering and your weekend’s family walk counts, as long as you can measure the distance you have travelled (keep your fitness tracker or phone with you) and is done under your own steam – no motorised vehicles allowed!
Note: For those of you who took part in the Tour de Corporate Shipbuilding, we will be using the same multiplier of 3 for any KMs run or walked. For example, run/walk 1KM and it will count as 3KM.
UPDATE: Swimming and indoor rowing will have the same multiplier applied
Tracking your distance
Each team captain will be responsible for collating their team’s distance on a weekly basis and how you track your kilometres (KM) is up to you (fitness tracker, your phone’s app or www.mapmyrun.com), just remember every step counts.
We’ll use this information to share how everyone is doing, perhaps create a bit of healthy competition from week to week.
How to get involved
It couldn’t be simpler, hit reply to this email and type ‘I’m in!’ It would also help us to create balanced teams if you could let us know if you consider yourself an active person (do you exercise/walk for more than 30 minutes, three or more times a week?).
Please let us know if you are willing to take part by no later than Monday 14 June as we’re planning for the first challenge to start from Monday 21 June.
If you’re still undecided, click here to read some quotes from Tour participants as well as a couple of short articles on how they clocked up their KMs and hopefully that will convince you!
Keeping an eye on the competition
We’ll share regular updates via email and on The Insider, feel free to share photos of how you’re clocking up your KMs.
For those of you who use Facebook, we’ve renamed the closed Facebook group that we created for the Tour de Corporate Shipbuilding for this next set of challenges – just search ‘Come Cruising with CCS’ and request to join. Only Corporate Shipbuilding colleagues will be permitted to join the group and it gives a great real time platform to share photos, comments and check-out how the competition is doing.
