Having seen the comms about the #trashtag beach clean during Environmental Week some of our Employee Relations team decided it was a great opportunity to help the Oceans and make a difference at West Beach in Littlehampton.

Maria Soneira Perez said, “The three of us had never been there before, so it was also an opportunity to get to know new places. We brought our own gloves, suitable footwear and all our Sunday morning energy!”

When they arrived the coordinator provided them with high-visibility jackets, picker-sticks and bin bags. Having started to walk down the beach thinking ‘this is a clean beach’ they then started to focus on the little things such as bottle lids, and realised just how much work there was to do.

They found really unusual things such as a cardigan, mustard bottle, milk bottle, children’s toys, laundry items, tennis balls, and lots of fishing wire and rope! The most unusual was an item believed to have originated from WWII, as the beach was near a weapons shed.

Maria also said “It was a satisfying and relaxing experience that we recommend you all to try, especially knowing the difference we have made to the environment. They even gave us coffee and tea when we finished!”
