On 8 October, Taren Sithaldeen, Crew Welfare Champion, hosted a Women at Sea event aboard Queen Victoria, bringing together women from different departments, nationalities and backgrounds for an evening of creativity, laughter and meaningful connection.

“Life at sea can be demanding. We spend long periods away from our families, work different schedules and sometimes have very little opportunity to connect with colleagues outside our departments.

The purpose of Women at Sea was to remind us that although we come from different cultures and backgrounds, we are all part of one onboard community.

I believe that creating opportunities for crew members to connect outside their working environment is an important part of supporting their wellbeing.”

The evening included watercolour painting, drawing, refreshments and plenty of conversation and laughter. No artistic experience was needed. The aim was simply to have fun, explore creativity, meet new people and build friendships. Each painting was different, reflecting the individuality and creativity of the women who attended.

Taren said: “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the HR team for supporting this initiative and giving me the opportunity to bring this vision to life.

My sincere appreciation also goes to everyone who assisted behind the scenes with the preparations, printing, flowers, materials and refreshments.

Most importantly, thank you to every wonderful woman who took time out of her busy schedule to attend. Your kindness, enthusiasm, participation and positive energy made the evening truly memorable.”

“I hope the women who attended will remember the evening not simply for the paintings they created, but for the laughter they shared, the friendships they formed and the feeling of being part of something special.

If even one person left feeling happier, more connected or more appreciated, then the event achieved something meaningful.”
