A visit to Stavanger became an unforgettable day ashore for crew members on board Iona, thanks to the support of local partners and colleagues dedicated to crew wellbeing. As the cruise ship with the most calls to Stavanger, Iona has become a familiar sight in the Norwegian city. To mark another successful season, crew members were treated to a range of special experiences designed to help them relax, recharge and make the most of their time ashore.
A private cinema experience
One of the highlights saw 95 crew members enjoy an exclusive screening of the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day film at Stavanger’s ODEON Cinema.
The screening was made possible with support of Line Murphy, Cruise Manager at Region Stavanger, who helped arrange the event. The response from the cinema team was simple: choose a date, choose a film, and they would make it happen.
Crew members were welcomed personally by the cinema owner and given access to premium screening rooms complete with reclining heated seats. Thanks to support from the shoreside Wellbeing team and the generosity of the cinema, every attendee also received complimentary snacks and refreshments to enjoy during the film. The Seafarers Welfare Committee (SWC) subsidised ticket costs, allowing crew members to enjoy the experience for just £5.
The success of the event has already sparked plans for future screenings, with local partners offering continued support, including complimentary internet access for crew members during upcoming visits.
Exploring Norway’s spectacular scenery
The cinema experience was just one part of a memorable day. Thanks to support from our Cruise Network partners, 15 members of Iona’s back of house team had the opportunity to experience one of Norway’s most breathtaking natural wonders with a complimentary excursion through the stunning Lysefjord.
Swapping ship views for towering cliffs, dramatic landscapes and unforgettable scenery, the excursion provided a chance for crew members to experience more of the destination they help guests enjoy throughout the season.
