A lively and creative atmosphere took over the Pavilion Pool aboard Queen Victoria as crew members from across the ship came together for a friendly and imaginative Ship building competition! The event was hosted by Entertainment Host Carrie, and organised by Welfare Officer Melissa Santos.
The competition challenged participants to design and build model ships using recyclable and reused materials, encouraging sustainability, teamwork, and creativity.
Departments taking part included: Galley, Provision, Deck, Carpenters, Electrical, Engineers, HR, Housekeeping, Youth Zone.
Three judges scored each entry based on visual design, cargo test performance, and floating capability and three of our colleagues jumped into the pool to help the judges score if the ships will handle bad weather waves – to help us make a final decision!
A close contest
The Youth Zone team proudly declared themselves the “People’s Champion” thanks to strong support from fellow crew members and guests.
However, after all judging scores were combined, the Electrical Department emerged as the overall winner of the competition. Recognised for outstanding creativity, performance in the cargo test, and strong floating capability.
The event was widely enjoyed by guests and crew, with enthusiastic support for the judges’ final decision. Beyond the competition itself, the activity highlighted the importance of teamwork, innovation, and environmental awareness by turning recyclable materials into impressive floating creations.
