To mark World Ocean Day, colleagues across Arvia were invited to get creative and take part in a poster competition celebrating the importance of protecting our oceans.
World Ocean Day, held each year on 8 June, is a global reminder of the vital role oceans play in supporting communities, livelihoods and ecosystems around the world. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness of the actions we can all take to help protect our marine environment.
The competition attracted more than 35 entries from crew across the ship, with participants submitting a fantastic range of designs. The standard was incredibly high, making the judging process a real challenge.
A huge congratulations to Miriam Obrador from the Youth Department, whose eye-catching design was selected as the winning entry. Miriam received a GoPro Max Waterproof 360+ Action Camera, kindly provided by the Seafarer’s Welfare Committee (SWC).
Environmental Compliance Officer, Adam Conley, said:
“The World Ocean Day poster competition was a great opportunity for our crew to think about the importance of the oceans and the impact of human actions and behaviours. We had so many great entries, it was really hard to choose a winner, but Miriam’s entry really stood out for its stunning design, key messages, and ‘act now, inspire tomorrow’ message. Congratulations Miriam.”
The winning poster, alongside the runners-up, is now proudly displayed in the M1, giving everyone onboard the chance to see the creativity and passion shown by their fellow colleagues. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the competition such a success.
