We’re launching a new initiative to recycle end-of-life crew uniforms from our ships in Southampton – turning what was once waste into a valuable resource.

Worn or damaged uniforms will be securely collected and processed by our hotel and uniform supplier, Tower Supplies, in partnership with AVENA, one of the UK’s leading secure textile recycling specialists. AVENA ensures all branding is removed and materials are responsibly recycled or reused.

Where possible, fibres will be transformed into new textile products such as bags, towels or t-shirts. If reuse in fabrics isn’t suitable, materials will be repurposed into things like insulation or industrial products, meaning we avoid landfill. Importantly, the process provides full traceability and certification, helping us protect our brands and track the positive impact of the programme.

Why this matters

In the past, end-of-life uniforms would typically have been disposed of through standard waste routes. This new closed-loop approach keeps materials in use for longer, reduces reliance on new raw materials, and lowers our environmental impact. With uniforms regularly replaced across our ships, this creates a consistent, high-volume opportunity to make a real difference through more responsible practices.

This initiative is a great example of how we’re working with our partners to deliver practical, scalable solutions that reduce waste and improve efficiency – while creating long-term commercial value. Looking ahead, there’s potential to use recycled fibres in future uniforms or onboard retail products, further strengthening the link between responsible sourcing, circularity, and guest engagement – while keeping value within the UK supply chain.

Thank you to Laura-Anne Robertson, Consultant Sustainability, Procurement & Supply Chain, for leading this work.
