This year saw the launch of the inaugural HESS & Sustainability Ship Excellence Awards program recognising and celebrating the “best of the best” among the incredible work being done by our teams across all our ships every day.
This programme was created to acknowledge and honour outstanding team performance at ship level across key objective measures in major HESS and sustainability disciplines. Specifically, the 2024 program evaluated overall ship performance across the following areas combined:
- Health: Crew safety (injury rates), legionnaire test results and health related Risk Advisory and Assurance Service (RAAS) audit findings.
- Environmental: Environmental regulatory compliance, food waste performance, bilge water management and minimisation, fresh/potable water use and refrigerant loss.
- Safety: Fire safety, life-saving appliance performance, and safe ship navigation.
- Security: Crew security and security related RAAS audit findings.
- Internal Audit: 2024 ship RAAS audit score and year on year change in ship RAAS audit score.
- Technical: In port single diesel generator operations performance.
- Sustainability: Ship-level sustainability initiatives.
Iona was voted as the best-performing shipboard team across the P&O Cruises fleet and on 13 March, Donnacha O’Driscoll and Paul Ludlow, alongside Rhett Hatcher, CEO of UK Chamber of Shipping, presented Captain Martin Allen with the award.
Congratulations to the team onboard Iona!
