Friday 8 March was International Women’s Day, a chance to celebrate women’s achievements and take action to drive gender equality. Together with activities shoreside, colleagues on board took the opportunity to celebrate the incredible women working on our ships.
We caught up with Aurora, Queen Anne and Ventura to find out more…
Aurora
Sharon Collins, Aurora HR Manager said: “In celebration of International Women’s Day, we held an ‘Inspire Inclusion’ event, inviting both crew and female guests. There was a great turnout with over 100 guests and around 40 crew from all ranks. Several crew members said a few words about their role, where they come from and how they ended up working at sea. We then invited female guests to speak for a few minutes about something they have achieved which could inspire others.
One of our Headliners Theatre Company opened the event by singing a couple of songs and lots of the women got up and danced, and we finished with tea and cake. This was all made possible through the great teamwork of our Female Forum, together with colleagues throughout the ship who helped with the arrangements.”
Queen Anne
As we eagerly look forward to Queen Anne’s arrival, Captain Inger Thorhauge and her colleagues celebrated International Woman’s Day in the shipyard in Italy, where it is tradition to give a mimosa yellow flower bud or bouquet to all women.
Captain Inger said: “We are an international group of women building a new ship with Italian traditions!”
Ventura
Orla McCreesh, Ventura HR Manager said: “We are a team of proud, diverse women made up of 207 crew and 33 officers, representing 14 nationalities on board. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we had a pink cupcake filled day of fun and chocolate to bring us together.
Even though it was a busy day at sea, we managed to get everyone together for a photo and celebrate each other. Greetings from all the women of Ventura.”
