Looking after the welfare of our colleagues, both onboard and ashore, is incredibly important. Back in July, we welcomed our first Crew Welfare Officers, Carolina Valencia on Queen Victoria and Ana Ramirez on Arcadia, where they began a four-month trial of this exciting new role.

Carolina and Ana are working with the ship’s company to deliver a programme of activity to focus on positive mental health, fitness, social connections, and faith. They’re also busy hearing the views of our colleagues on what it’s like to work on our ships and how we can make life on board even better.

They interact with colleagues around the ship, host drop-in sessions and are regular attendees in our established seafarer forums. They’re also playing an important role in our Life onboard surveys, helping to educate our colleagues on the importance of how sharing their honest feedback can help raise awareness of any issues and drive continued improvement onboard our ships.

Carolina Valencia, Crew Welfare Officer on Queen Victoria said:

“I look after crew wellbeing and help to promote positive mental health by creating fun events that all crew can enjoy during their time off. I enjoy talking to the crew about their needs, meeting lovely people around the ship and being able to contribute to the happiness of the crew.”

The team on Queen Victoria have had plenty to keep busy, with crew shore excursions, board game evenings, bingo competitions, and a band night to name just a few! Take a look at some of the highlights…

Meanwhile aboard Arcadia, Crew Welfare Officer Ana Ramirez has also been busy arranging a series of events and activities. She told us:

“I find it fascinating working for all of us – the crew! I want to make life onboard the best it can be. I’m working with the HR and Medical team to focus on our mental and emotional health, allowing us to enjoy our time away from home.”

The team on Arcadia have been enjoying a programme of fitness classes and sports events to keep active, as well as a host of social events including a BBQ, crew shore excursions, a band night and bingo! Here are some of their highlights…

Great job, Carolina and Ana! Thanks to Dan Yeates, Wellbeing Manager, for sharing the brilliant work our Crew Welfare Officers are doing on board.
