Our fleet sails on the world’s magnificent oceans and we’re committed to our responsibility to preserve and protect the marine environment. This is why, as part of our dedication to sustainability, we have a number of environmental initiatives that are focused on looking after our ocean – they include:
- Aiming to purchase more seafood from sustainable sources
- Installing Advanced Waste Water Treatment Systems
- Reducing our carbon intensity
- Reducing our use of single-use plastics
- Reducing food waste from entering the ocean
These initiatives, to name a few, require us to live our Culture Essentials behaviours – namely Speak Up, Improve and Respect & Protect – in order to minimise the impact we have on the natural environment and help to protect our ocean for the long term.
This June we’ll join others around the Corporation and the world to mark World Oceans Day on 8 June. To recognise this across the Corporation, we’re asking you to share what commitments you’ve made and what you’ve done to help the oceans in our 2023 Operation Oceans Alive competition.

What is World Oceans Day?
World Oceans Day is celebrated annually on 8 June to raise awareness about the important role the oceans play in the health of our planet and the wellbeing of people.
Our oceans play a critical role in regulating the Earth’s climate, providing a home to countless species of marine life, and supporting human livelihoods and economies, but there are currently many threats facing our oceans, such as pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change.
World Oceans Day aims to inspire individuals and organisations around the world to take action to protect and conserve the oceans. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the beauty and diversity of marine life and to raise awareness of the many ways in which we depend on the ocean for our survival.
