Just a day after Arvia’s Naming Ceremony, on the 17th March, Arvia became the first cruise ship to bunker liquified natural gas (or LNG) by lorry in the Caribbean. Bunkering means to fill up with fuel.

What did the bunkering involve?

Taking on 194m3 of LNG by lorry in Bridgetown, Barbados, this will allow the ship to do approx. 300 nautical miles at a speed of 12.5 knots (or around 14mph).

This is a tremendous milestone, which marks another step in our sustainability journey. Here’s what Sophie Portlock, VP for Sustainability, had to say:

Congratulations to the Maritime department in CUK and all involved in supporting Arvia to become the first cruise ship to bunker LNG in the Caribbean. Another positive step in our decarbonisation agenda.

A special shout out to Port and Shore Ops and our team onboard, who were involved in another first for our brands!
