Chinese New Year is the annual 15-day festival celebrated in China and Chinese communities around the world. It begins with the new moon that this year will be from 22 January 2023 and will end on 9 February 2024 which is known as Chinese New Year’s Eve.
The holiday is often referred to as the Lunar New Year because the dates of celebration follow the phases of the moon. 2023 is a year of the Water Rabbit, which is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.
Celebrations during Chinese New Year include saying goodbye to the old year and bringing forward the luck and prosperity of the new one. This often includes firecrackers, fireworks, and red clothes and decorations. Young people are given money in colourful red envelopes and of course there is time for eating and celebrating with family.
As our colleagues based in China look forward to some well-earned time off to celebrate what a great time to share some latest photos of 1508 in the shipyard in Shanghai, as well as the beautiful Shanghai skyline – thanks to Meiru Shen, our Owner Supply Manager who sent these over.
Wishing everyone celebrating, a wonderful Chinese New Year!
