It’s International Men’s Day on Saturday 19 November. This year, the day is focusing on making a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys, and highlights positive role models.

Here at CUK, the Athena employee led network have organised a week of activities to encourage  colleagues to get talking, and to raise awareness of organisations supporting men and boys’ wellbeing. Find out more below:

What’s on this week?

14 – 18 November:

Have a coffee catch-up, on us!
We’re encouraging our male employees to get talking for International Men’s Day 2022. This week, when anyone buys a drink in the Atrium, we’ll give you another one free to enjoy with a colleague. Take a moment out of your workday to have a chat  – the more we talk, the better we feel.

Driving Prostate Cancer awareness
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men (after skin cancer), but it can often be treated successfully. If you have prostate cancer or are close to someone who does, knowing what to expect can help you cope.  Find out more here, including the risk factors, symptoms, and how it is treated. Leaflets will also be available this week in the Atrium.

Wednesday 16 November:

Meet the Men’s Shed
One organisation we will be raising awareness of is Men’s Sheds Association. They provide support and guidance to individuals and groups across the UK in starting and managing Men’s Sheds.

They raise awareness of the social and health benefits of Men’s Sheds in reducing isolation, loneliness and in empowering local communities. On Wednesday 16 November, we will have local members of Men’s Sheds Association joining us in the atrium for the day, to share information and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to come down to meet the Bitterne Sheds Association.
