On 18 April 2022, our five-year probation under the Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) ended. Although our probation has ended, our commitment to growing and improving our compliance excellence as a company hasn’t, and never will.

As we move forward, we need everyone’s support to build on the foundations of the ECP and everyday work to achieve excellence in compliance, environmental protection and the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, the people in the communities we touch and serve, and our shipboard and shoreside employees.

To update everyone on the end of our ECP, including our achievements and future focuses, Arnold Donald, President and CEO, Carnival Corporation, along with Bill Burke, Chief Maritime Officer; Peter Anderson, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer; and Chris Donald, Senior Vice President Corporate Environmental Compliance, have recorded a video to share with all colleagues.

See Arnold Donald from 00:00 and 11:35 mins, Bill Burke from 04:35min, Peter Anderson from 07:10min, and Chris Donald from 08:55min.

Thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication, the past five years have enabled us to make positive change to protect our world for the many generations to follow, including:

  • New food digestors have virtually eliminated plastic and other non-biodegradables from our food waste.
  • A reduction food waste overall.
  • Dramatically reduced single use plastics on our ships.
  • Bilge equipment upgrades that mean they not only operate more effectively, but they make monitoring more reliable and we’re producing less bilge water overall.
  • The cruise industry has six ships powered by cleaner burning LNG – all six are our ships and we have five more on order.
  • Fleet Operation Centres working together to align practices and we’ve created an Incident Analysis Group as a completely separate function for independent investigations.
  • The company-wide vision we all share and our focus on the culture of our workplace, make it safe and fair for everyone, and where we all strive to the right things, in the right ways, for the right reasons.
  • Operations Oceans Alive programme recognises and rewards initiative and excellence.
  • We’re measuring our progress as a company through regular company-wide surveys.

Global Hess is our safety management system and this is where you’ll find all our HESS requirements so we continue to comply with all maritime rules and regulation.
