Most of you will have heard of the much-loved TV programme Bake Off which has aired in more than 35 countries around the world in recent years. For those that aren’t so familiar, it’s where people compete to showcase their baking skills with some tough judges deciding the winners.

So, what better way to bring the team together and add a little bit of healthy competition into the mix than with a CCS Bake Off, Papenburg style! The baking challenge involved bakers from both the Corporate Shipbuilding site team and P&O, as did the judging panel, just to keep everything balanced and fair!

On Monday 21 March the eight entries arrived at the office, all ready to be tasted and judged! Some of the entries had a little help from their junior bakers at home making it a real family effort.

It was no easy task for the judges to choose the winner, but after a lot of forkfuls of cake, they chose two winners:

  • Andrea Velasco’s ‘Finally Spring’ cake won ‘Best Look’
  • Jens Voller’s Apple Pie won ‘Best Taste’

Talking about the Bake Off, Jutta Kramer, Project Assistant for the Papenburg site office said:

“The idea came about during an introduction meeting with the P&O team. We wanted to do something together and I was so pleased when we had eight contestants putting in their name up front.

Huge congratulations Andrea and Jens! Flying the Corporate Shipbuilding flag proudly with this achievement!

A big thank you to the judges who ate lots of cake and no doubt went home that night with stomach ache and maybe slight overload of sugar!”

The other bakers were:

Corporate Shipbuilding:

  • Sylvia Helms – Spring Cake with Mandarins
  • Udo de Vries – Black Bomb
  • Sergio Giannotti – Crumbled Nutella Cake
  • Rene Gruenes – Rote Gruetze Kuchen

P&O:

  • Adrian Archer – Boston Crème Cake
  • Andrew Foote – Chocolate Dipped Coconut Pyramids
