Our World, Your Voice
The ‘Our World, Your Voice’ Environmental Culture Survey closed yesterday and we’re delighted that as a Corporation, we reached over 85% colleague participation. Thank you to everyone who took part. Once we’ve received the survey results from Propel Safyr, the independent company running the survey, we’ll share these via The Insider.
Watch the video below, featuring all Carnival Corporation’s brand presidents, to find out why it’s important to speak up, take part and share your thoughts.
In April 2017 we entered into an Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) and made a commitment, through our Oceans Alive programme, to improve our systems, processes and culture when it comes to protecting the environment.
We’re doing this because our highest responsibility and top priority is compliance, environmental protection and the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, the people in the communities we touch and serve, and our shipboard and shoreside employees.
As part of our ECP, we have an independent Court Appointed Monitor (CAM) who checks that these improvements are being made. The Environmental Culture Survey is one of their checks – you may remember a similar survey running in 2018.
The ‘Our World, Your Voice’ Environmental Culture Survey is being run by Propel Sayfr. They are an independent company, chosen by our Court Appointed Monitor.
Environmental Culture Survey Q&A
The CAM is the Company’s Court Appointed Monitor appointed after Princess pled guilty to intentional vessel pollution and related crimes. His name is Steve Solow, and he was appointed by a judge to monitor the Company’s efforts to comply with the Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP).
PROPEL SAYFR is an independent maritime consulting company, chosen by the CAM, to carry out this Environmental Culture Survey. This is the logo you’ll see on the survey:
In April 2017, Carnival Corporation entered into an ECP and made a commitment to improve its systems, processes and culture when it comes to the environment. In 2018-2019, PROPEL SAYFR conducted a first survey to set a company benchmark for evaluating environmental compliance culture. These survey results will be compared to the benchmark data and will serve as the basis for an updated assessment of areas where change and improvement may be needed. The Company has committed to make improvements based on learnings from the survey.
The ECP (Environmental Compliance Plan) is part of the Company’s probation obligations after the Princess guilty plea in 2016. It’s a five-year commitment made by and applicable to all of Carnival Corporation that has been in place since April 2017. It ensures that the Company continuously adopts best practice measures that help prevent, control, and mitigate the risk of environmental pollution.
The Company has introduced focused environmental training, special procedures, and certain technical requirements designed to prevent pollution and minimize negative environmental impacts. As a result, each and every person is responsible for preventing and reducing any risk of environmental pollution. It also means that you need to speak up if you see or think something is wrong, and report all near misses.
Oceans Alive is one of the ways we are bringing our ECP commitment to life. Oceans Alive asks everyone to care for and protect our oceans, seas, and waterways, making sure their ecosystems, plant life and aquatic animals thrive, both now and in the future.
