We’re covering two topics this week as there are 5 Ways to Wellbeing, but only 4 weeks in October!
Keep Learning
Learning is often associated with BIG things. Like learning a new language or learning to play an instrument. If that is something that interests you and you have the time, amazing, do it! But in amongst our busy lives that can feel like a big commitment. Check out this short video clip (only 30 seconds!) to for some other ideas on learning.
So here is an idea for a smaller, perhaps more achievable target:
Do something that would make your younger self proud!
Think about what you wanted to be when you were growing up and use that to inspire your learning now. It could be a career or an activity you always wanted to try. You may not be able to become an astronaut or a rock star now, but you could always learn a bit more about it!

Give
Here’s another short video clip to help you understand what the gift of giving can include, click here.
Thinking about giving, it does not need to be about giving money. It can be about giving time or utilising your skills. Random acts of kindness can be very powerful and can make someone’s day.
Here are some ideas you may not have thought of before:
- Donate your voice – There is a human voice bank run by VocalID. They use your voice to create custom synthetic voice personalities that use crowdsourced voices so that individuals living with speechlessness can be heard in a voice that is uniquely theirs. https://vocalid.ai/voicebank/
- Give blood
- Litter pick at a park or beach
- Make cards or cakes for your local fire or ambulance station
- Do a reverse advent calendar (https://southsefton.foodbank.org.uk/2020/10/29/the-reverse-advent-calendar-what-is-it-and-how-to-do-it-right/)
- If you can knit or crochet, make blankets or hats for homeless charities or crochet octopuses for premature babies (https://www.octopusforapreemie.com/)
If none of these appeal then think about a cause you are passionate about. If you like animals, perhaps you could donate old blankets or towels to a local animal shelter, or volunteer as a dog walker. If you have a preferred sport, perhaps you could get involved with a youth team in your area.
And a final thought for the week from Charlie Macksey:
