On 16 September, Warsash cadets from all phases of training, attended the Seafarers Rights International (SRI) conference at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
The conference focused on future proofing the Maritime convention and in the presence of National dignitaries and industry leaders, provided cadets with an incredible opportunity to witness discussions on how the maritime industry has recently performed under extreme and unprecedented conditions.

In addition the cadets were asked to make speeches on the subject of career and skill development for Seafarers’. Issues such as the use of technology in education, ensuring excellent teaching provision and training, the challenge of specialising education for industry and increasing the diversity of the maritime labour market were covered by the cadets. The speeches were live to the world.
As a Phase 1 cadet with Carnival UK and having 17 years of educational experience, I put the case forward for long run investment in higher education training. Technology has often been cited in education as the enabler for better teaching, however, in my experience, the long run effectiveness of introducing technology has to be matched by exceptional teacher training to maximise the effectiveness of the tools. – Stephen Strowger, Cadet
The Carnival UK Cadet Team are exceptionally proud of the cadets for getting involved and embracing this opportunity.
