This week is Know Your Numbers! Week, a week hosted by Blood Pressure UK to help raise awareness of high blood pressure and encourage all UK adults to get a blood pressure check.
A healthy blood pressure reading is 120/80mmHg
High blood pressure usually carries no symptoms but it can cause:
- Blurred vision
- Nosebleeds
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Kidney disease
- Dementia
If you work ashore you’ll have the opportunity to have your blood pressure reading taken at your voluntary annual health assessment session. Alternatively you can book an appointment with your GP or with Pharmacy.
If you work onboard you’ll have your blood pressure reading taken as part of your medical checks. You should visit the medical centre if you have any concerns during your contract.
