What are you in to?

I’ve always been a good eater. Way back from when I was a child and my mom would put some pieces of chicken in front of me to gnaw on so I would stop asking her questions. Food was always my comfort and more importantly, it was how my mom showed her family that she loved us.

Even now that there is an ocean between us (I’m originally from New York), my mom asks me every weekend what yummy things I’ve made to eat lately. We get excited talking about trying new recipes and re-inventing traditional favourites. It’s a great connecting point and it is no surprise that cooking (and eating) is the first place I turn to when life has its ups and downs.

So where do you turn? What do you do like to do with your spare time? Why not share it with the rest of us!

Feeling connected to others can have a significant impact on mental health, health behaviour, physical health and mortality risk.  When relationships in the workplace are characterized by cooperation, trust and fairness, it encourages future interactions that promote employee trust, respect, and confidence, with employees believing the best in each other and inspiring each other in their performance. You can click here to read more about it.

To start us off, as mentioned in our first Mental Health Blog Post found here, we’ve started up a social group on Facebook on my favourite topic, FOOD!

It is called Eat, Drink and be Merry with CCS and if you have a Facebook account, we would love it if you would join in the fun! Simply search for us and request to join.

It’s a social place where we can share recipes, photos of yummy foods we’ve had and get to know each other a bit better all through food and drink. As we get going, we are planning events for anyone interested in participating.

Fancy a ‘Great CCS Bake-off’ or our own version of Masterchef? A quick Google search tells me both of these culinary/cooking programmes have aired in all our locations but don’t worry if you haven’t heard of them, we’ll share all the details of how to get involved once we iron them out.

Or maybe your interests aren’t culinary?

Are you an avid football fan, glued to your set or lucky enough to get seats to any of the big games? Do you go surfing or kayak in the local area? Is your phone filled with pictures of your pets? Or local sights that you recently visited? We want to know about it and experience it with you!

The sky is the limit so let’s start up some chatter and get to know each other on a more personal level! It’s easy to participate through social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, LinkedIn…

To participate, all you have to do is include the hashtag, #ccs_social, somewhere in your social media post. To see posts from others, do a search for #ccs_social and you can see what your co-workers have posted up too!

Coming up soon…..

Not convinced yet? Here are a few ideas we’re kicking around. Please reach out to your CCS Mental Health Champions, Charlotte Green and Eva Lee if you are interested in any of these ideas, OR if you have an idea of your own!
