As summer draws to a close and the autumn months loom ahead, it’s time to turn our attention to the next of our mini challenges in our Come Cruising with CCS series.

Remember the purpose of these challenges is to help us connect with colleagues across departments that we wouldn’t normally interact with and of course to stay healthy, both mentally and physically. Did I mention the competition?!

Introducing the Iona Sprint
With Iona well into her maiden season, our next challenge involves travelling the distance (1078KM) between Southampton and the island of Iona, the Scottish island the ship is named after.

How does it work?
In teams you will work together to travel the equivalent distance between Southampton and the island of Iona between Monday 20 September and Sunday 17 October 2021, a total of four weeks. The team who completes the most journeys will be crowned the winner.

You can run, walk (walking around your home, the shops, whilst carrying out your inspections onboard etc. all count!), cycle, surf or swim the distance. You can literally do whatever type of activity you like, even hoovering and your weekend’s family walk counts, as long as you can measure the distance you have travelled (keep your fitness tracker or phone with you) and is done under your own steam – no motorised vehicles allowed!

Note: multiplier of 3 for any KMs run, walked, swam or paddle boarded. For example, run/walk 1KM and it will count as 3KM.

How to get involved
If you took part in the Chasing Smeralda challenge then you will automatically be included in the Iona Sprint, and as part of the same team. You will need to agree on your team captain for this challenge.

New to the challenge, then simply send an email to communications@carnivalshipbuilding.com and we’ll add you to a team or create another depending on the numbers.

Want to submit your own team? Or involve brand colleagues?
The more the merrier! If there is a group of you that want to take part as a team, simply send the names of your team members to the communications mailbox together with your team name and team captain.

Someone suggested that brand colleagues, particularly those based in the site offices might be interested in getting involved. If you know someone who might be interested please ask them to send an email to communications@carnivalshipbuilding.com and we’ll add them to a team.

Please let us know if you are willing to take part by no later than Friday 10 September as we’re planning for the Sprint to start from Monday 20 September.

Tracking your distance
Each team captain will be responsible for collating their team’s distance on a weekly basis and how you track your kilometres (KM) is up to you (fitness tracker, your phone’s app or www.mapmyrun.com), just remember every step counts.

We’ll use this information to share how everyone is doing, perhaps create a bit of healthy competition from week to week.

Keeping an eye on the competition
We’ll share regular updates via email and on The Insider, feel free to share photos of how you’re clocking up your KMs.

For those of you who use Facebook, we have a closed Facebook group – just search ‘Come Cruising with CCS’ and request to join, it gives a great real time platform to share photos, comments and check-out how the competition is doing.

Thanks

Lynsey
