One of the ways our fleet like to mark a special occasion on board is by cooking up a storm in the galley and celebrating with a marvellous menu! We love it when colleagues tell us about the events happening on their ship; here’s a few that have been shared with us recently:

Ventura, Philippines Independence Day

To mark Philippines Independence Day, or Araw ng Kalayaan; Day of Freedom, on 12 June, Ventura held a celebratory event on board.  They had a menu packed with tasty Filipino food, thanks to guest chefs Ave Echague (Jr Waiter) and John de la Cruz (HR Manager) who helped in cooking authentic fried rice, noodles and Jollibee spaghetti. Their Galley Team improvised special ensaymadas and fruit salad for dessert which were loved by all.

The occasion was also marked with lots of games in the evening where more than 30 prizes were given out by the Seafarers Welfare Committee (SWC). Everyone who took part enjoyed the event and were asking for more!

Iona, Day of the Seafarer

On 25 June it was Day of the Seafarer, a day to recognise the contribution of seafarers from all maritime industries, all across the world. For us, we took the opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to all our fleet colleagues for their incredible support as we return to service – it wouldn’t be possible without you!  On Iona, the F&B team baked a delicious cake for everyone to enjoy.

Ventura, Street Food event

Celebrating the diversity of colleagues on board, several crew members recently had the opportunity to cook authentic street food dishes from their home country. Ventura’s crew from Nepal prepared some delicious dumplings which were really popular, colleagues from India prepared Mumbai street vada pao and Goan style prawn patties, and crew from the Philippines made Jollibee style spaghetti with some spring rolls and very crispy pata. A very successful street food lunch!
