We know from our most recent engagement survey results that many of you want more opportunities for development, which is great to hear.
As part of our Listen and Learn Culture Essential, we want everyone to encourage not only the development and growth of others but themselves too. We’re all responsible for our own learning and development and as such, we have identified an online learning platform called The Cove that can be accessed by all in Corporate Shipbuilding regardless of location and employing entity.
Some of you may already be making good use of The Cove and its learning and development resources, but we also know that many of you have never heard of it.
Keep reading to find out more about The Cove and how it can support your learning and development journey.
What is The Cove?
The Cove is an interactive online learning platform which has been specifically designed to provide Carnival employees with the educational tools, information and resources to support and enhance their learning. This site holds a range of e-learning materials on a number of different topics, which are available for all employees to use at any level.
The Cove library is full of fantastic content to support your development and you’ll also be able to learn from others on the ‘what’s happening wall’ and discussion forums. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition, so keep an eye on your trophy room and leader boards too.
Also, remember this is a professional forum. Don’t post anything, including comments about your colleagues or customers that could put you or the company in a difficult position. In particular please remember the importance of keeping information about yourself, your colleagues and our business safe and secure.
What materials are available to you?
There is a range of available materials which differ in length and cater to various learning and development needs, both professional and personal. The following are just some of the types of content you can expect to see: Reading, Videos, blogs, E-Learning, Articles and courses. All content has guidance and tells you what you can expect to learn through objectives and outcomes being provided.
Where should I start?
We recommend a good starting point is the My Best Me: Quiz
https://www.carnivalcove.co.uk/elearning/936
This interactive quiz will give you an idea of where your strengths and gaps may be. It’ll take you about 15 minutes to go through the questions and review your answers. The quiz will enable you to:
- Spot your development areas so you know where to focus
- Build a personal action plan to get you where you want to be
- Build new skills that work for you
- Keep track in your 1:1s
- Live our new culture essentials
Can I work with others to support in my development?
Yes, we would encourage you to speak to your colleagues and if you have identified any development areas that are similar or the same you could decide to plan in the session and go through these together or plan on using the same content and then meet afterwards to discuss what you have learnt and what you might change as a result of that learning.
Remember, our Culture Essential of Listen and Learn encourages us develop ourselves and others we work with.
We will also be running sessions to support you in using The Cove and to ensure this supports your personal and professional development. Dates and times as follows:

Good Practice
Good Practice is an online development library and is home to thousands of materials, which include reading, e-learning, videos, blogs and more to further support you in your development.
How can I access Good Practice?
Everyone can access Good Practice via The Cove by signing up using your email address and some of you may even receive emails from Good Practice that update you on current topics and materials.
Here is a link to register with your @carnivalshipbuilding.com email address: https://app.goodpractice.net/#/carnival/login
What if I can’t find what I am looking for?
If you are unable to find content either on The Cove or Good Practice to satisfy your development needs please reach out to a member of the Services team who will be happy to help support you in finding the most suitable resources for your learning.
How should I report on my progress?
We would always encourage you to speak with your line manager to discuss what development you are undertaking to ensure they can support you through this and have meaningful discussions to ensure your learning is being put into action within your role. This doesn’t always have to be during formal catch ups that are in relation to the performance cycle, it can be at any time as development is seen as an ongoing journey.
What if I have issues accessing the Cove or Good Practice?
We have carried out testing in all locations to ensure access isn’t an issue. If you do have any issues then please contact Lucy Davis.
