There were plenty of busy bunnies onboard some of our ships this Easter with all sorts of egg-citing activities taking place. Check out some of them below:
Azura’s artistic eggs
Orla McCreesh, HRM onboard said:
“Our team members from all departments got into a decorating frenzy with their eggs, decorating all of them by hand. Some were funny, artistic, lay-up-in-Newcastle themed, music and art based – some even used recycled materials! You name it we had it… even a full farmyard.
The work and effort that went into these eggs was just amazing and everyone in the process had an “eggcellent time all round
The competition was judged by the Easter Bunnies and SMT onboard who found it very hard to find an overall winner but congratulations to Tedd from F&B department, Nobby, Ventilation officer, the Medical team, Floramae from Security and Fallorina from the Technical department.
Captain, HRM, Chief and HGM also got into the eggstastic spirit of things with the delivery trollies loaded with eggs – as you can see from the image at the top.”
Arcadia’s egg hunt
John White, HRM onboard said: “Our Bakery team worked really hard to produce an array of Easter Cakes and a couple of large Easter Eggs to compliment the Easter eggs provided by the SWC for everyone onboard.
Along with time for Religious celebration we held an Easter Egg Hunt. The assembled crew had to look at various locations across the ship with the use of a small riddles written by HRM John White to help them get from location to locations. Winner 2nd Officer Martin Goodhew made to the final location first with all clues and answers from the locations visited, Martin won extra Easter Chocolate and a £10 Easter Amazon Voucher.
All participants were awarded with extra Easter Chocolate for taking part and said they had found the “Egg Hunt” a very enjoyable way to spend some spare time and all had said it was good fun.”
Queen Elizabeth’s BBQ
Sunny weather in Weymouth allowed team Queen Elizabeth to put on a deck barbeque on Easter Sunday. Executive Chef Mark and the Galley team put on a fine spread of burgers, sausages, fresh salads and desserts.
While the Galley team was busy with the barbeque, the Easter Bunnies were making special deliveries; Sharon – Security Officer, Jackie – Hotel General Manager, Olga – Housekeeping Manager, Carla – Hotel Operations & Retail Manager and Carola – HR Manager delivered Easter treats to over 100 crew cabins, a gesture that was appreciated by all but especially by those colleagues who recently joined and were in pre-emptive quarantine.
Queen Mary 2’s giant eggs
The Galley team made big chocolate eggs which were on display in Kings Court for photos. The dessert table, with a fresh waffle station, was also a big hit with all and Captain Wells stopped by to help out and to do some quality control.
The evening saw everyone come together for Easter Bingo & Raffle. There were five games of bingo with the Jackpot shared by two winners from the Galley team.
Queen Victoria’s quiz and Sunday Service
Back in Weymouth for the week, team Queen Victoria got together for an Easter quiz. The popular quiz night was followed by a beautiful Easter Sunday service led by Captain Evans to reflect on family at home and fellow seafarers around the world.
The Crew hunted for hidden chocolates, sweets and snacks on Deck 9 before a wonderful Easter Luncheon with ship made Hot Cross Buns and Chocolate Easter cakes was presented.
Shakespear, Crew Services Manager & Girlie, Hotel Operations & Retail Manager were the Easter Bunnies giving out Easter Eggs to crew before and after lunch. The most popular egg was the Kit Kat Chunky which went fast!
And on Easter Monday team Queen Victoria celebrated the successes of the Crew Marathon with medals and goody bags given to all participants who helped raise money for local charities.
A marathon effort
Teams on board Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria took part in a Crew Marathon on Easter Saturday to raise money for local charities. With specially designed t-shirts produced by a local Torquay company, Captain Wells and Captain Evans led walkers, runners and a spinning team completing the 26.2 mile race, a distance which Senior Doctor Gerry completed all by himself!
39 Crew and Officers on Queen Victoria took part raising an amazing £963 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and on Queen Mary 70 Crew and Officers took part in the sportive challenge raising a grand total of £1,040 for the Disabled Sailing Association.
Even local people donated to the fund after learning about the ships involvement!
