With the hull of the Seabourn Venture (MAR 172) now complete and a significant project milestone achieved, she is now beginning her journey to Mariotti’s shipyard in Genoa, where all of the outfitting and commissioning activities will take place.
Saturday 20 March saw the hull loaded safely onto a barge. Today (Monday 29 March) the barge started the 58 nautical mile journey to get her to the first stop of the Port of Trieste. Tomorrow (Tuesday 30 March), the hull will be launched, another significant milestone for the team working on the build. Once launched, Seabourn Venture will be towed round to Genoa (1113 nautical miles), which should take approximately 10 days, arriving 10 April.
Talking about why the ship has been constructed in this way, Riccardo Macleod, Building Manager, Genoa, explains:
“The explanation is quite simple, Mariotti’s shipyard in Genoa doesn’t have a drydock or slipway so the hull is constructed in San Giorgio di Nogaro and then transported to Genoa for final outfitting and commissioning.
Working in two locations has certainly made for a challenging, especially in this period of Covid-19, but rewarding project to be a part of.
Communication, collaboration and of course listening to each other are all key to our success.
I’m extremely proud of the team involved, particularly given the additional health and safety measures that we’re all working to.”
