HESS and how we look after our people, planet, local communities and Guests remains just as important during our operational pause as it does in more usual times.

Recently we’ve celebrated a number of ships’ company who have proven their HESS Hero status. Here are their stories…

Adel Bilugan, Mechanical Fitter [Arcadia]

To ensure we are environmentally compliant we have a number of environmental procedures which we must follow. One of the procedures ‘DER 2005’, has a requirement for all of our galley and deck drainage channels to be covered and the covers secure.

Adel, using his creative ability fabricated an improved solution for securing the galley and deck drainage covers. By crafting a solution Adel contributed to improving the speed at which current and future repairs can be made.

Arfe Autida, Housekeeping Assistant [Arcadia]

Arfe is a fantastic advocate for wellbeing and keeping everyone safe and well. Every night he verbally reminds us that the wooden floor can be wet outside the restaurant and he also puts signs in place to encourage everyone to take care.  Similarly, when hoovering he is always conscientious of others and makes sure he isn’t putting anyone in danger or at risk of tripping over cords. Arfe always speaks up and is consistent in his messages to other.

Ruben Ventura, Housekeeping [Queen Victoria]

Ruben has shown great care and attention to the wellbeing of those completing quarantine. He consistently provides support and help to those with requests and is always happy to go the extra mile to improve the experience for his colleagues and make sure they are safe, well and happy. Ruban also works hard to keep all areas of the quarantine zone sanitised so that everyone can feel assured they are in a safe environment.

“We are proud to have you as part of the team; you really are a true HESS Hero Ruban. Well done.” Queen Victoria SMT

Rachel Wallis, Crew Services Manager [Queen Mary 2]

Over the festive period Rachel played a huge role in organising entertainment and festive events to help keep morale and sense of wellbeing high.

As a result of her efforts there was a noticeable boost in morale. Well done Rachel.

Mushtaq Ahmad, Able Seaman [Ventura]

While tendering from Torquay to Ventura Mushtaq was faced with poor weather conditions.  His control over the vessel and the calmness he showed didn’t go unseen by many ship’s company. All praised his skills and maneuvering ability to keep everyone safe and well.

Salvador Barrameda, Waste Disposal Operator [Aurora]

Salvador always considers HESS when completing tasks. He has improved recycling centre conditions and cleanliness, monitors food waste with vigilance and always thinks SHARK before marking or segregating any waste for landing. He is a true HESS hero, always taking into consideration the environment as well as the health and safety of his colleagues.

Congratulations to all our HESS heroes.
