Today all colleagues at Carnival UK received an email from Arnold Donald announcing the launch of our refreshed Code of Business Conduct and Ethics (the ‘Code’). As Carnival UK’s Ethics and Compliance Officer, I wanted to follow up on Arnold’s message to explain a bit more about what the new Code means for all of us.

As Arnold outlined, the Code defines the common expectations of all of us, at all levels of our organisation.

The Code provides us with guiding principles to ensure our continued commitment to our top priorities of safety, protecting the environment and being in compliance. It helps each of us to ensure that we do the right things, in the right way for the right reasons.

Doing the right thing, is second nature in a lot of cases, but we know that sometimes it’s more complex.  The Code is there to help us navigate the challenges and decisions we face every day. You can use it as one source of truth, providing direction when it is needed. You’ll find decision making guidance and some real life examples of situations you might find yourself in, with pointers on how to deal with them. It’s no coincidence that you’ll see great examples in the Code of how to live out the Culture Essentials

The format of the new Code enables you to navigate easily from section to section and to explore the relevant supporting policies and procedures. Please therefore take some time to get to know the new Code and use it on an ongoing basis to inform your decisions and actions. You’ll all be used to completing an e-learning course on the Code and you’ll see a refreshed version of that training launched in the coming months – this will provide you with additional background on the topics covered in the Code and an opportunity to test your understanding by completing questions and scenarios. This will be accessed via GLADIS and you’ll be reminded to complete the training when it’s due as usual, but you will also be able to access the content to refresh your knowledge at any time.

You’ll find additional resources on a number of subjects covered in the Code via the Code of Conduct page of the Insider. Live now are:

Resources are added to and updated regularly so please remember to check in from time to time to learn more.

Thank you for your continued support of ethics and compliance and for your commitment to the culture of Carnival UK.

If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions related to the Code then please contact the Carnival UK Ethics & Compliance team at ethics@carnivalukgroup.com. (You can meet the team and learn more about the Culture Essentials in this Insider article.)
