This week we were pleased to hear Britannia were championing ‘Take time for wellbeing’, a Carnival UK initiative launched in November, by hosting their very own wellbeing event for all ship’s company.
The event which took place on World Kindness day, Friday 13 November, was opened with a speech from Captain Allen who took the time to promote the range of fantastic activities on offer throughout the day.
Alongside the Captain Karl Shepherd, Deputy Captain; Peter Redding, Chief Engineer; Matthew Howard, Food and Beverage Manager; Maria Godja, Hotel Operations Manager; De Wet Bosch, Senior Doctor and Rishi Chadha, HR Manager took on the role of hosts by facilitating group sessions and activities throughout the day.
Sessions included;
Activity 1 | Learn what growth mindset is.
Activity 2 | Focus on what you can control – the Circle of Control and Influence.
Activity 3 | Find the key to success – Listen to Tom Bilyeu’s podcast.
Activity 4 | Self reflect and think – what are you grateful for? What could you improve? etc ..
Activity 5 | Take a walk.
Activity 6 | Challenge your negative thoughts – set aside 10 mins a day for ‘worry time’.
Activity 7 | Explore another world and share the benefits of reading.
Activity 8 | Catch up with colleagues
Activity 9 | Participate and learn – keep on top of wellbeing with a wellbeing diary.

The turnout was fantastic and it was great to see so many individuals taking time for wellbeing and participating. In fact, we plan to host a second wellbeing event in just a few weeks to allow new joiners to take part too!
Being able to understand people’s concerns and what matters most to them is hugely important as it helps us to support them and make improvements where we’re able to.
Rishi Chadha, HR Manager
Ship’s company were also able to share personal stories, pick up wellbeing handouts, EAP information and topical books from the crew library, as well as enjoy a few edible treats provided by Britannia’s Food & Beverage team.
