At Carnival UK we all have a role to play in keeping everyone safe and well both physically and mentally. This month we were exceptionally pleased to hear all about the great work Mincho Ivanov, 2nd Electro Technical Officer on board Arcadia, has been doing to champion wellbeing and support his fellow colleagues.

We caught up with Mincho to find out why wellbeing is so important to him and what he’s been doing to encourage others to take time for their wellbeing too.

What gave you the idea to support others with their wellbeing?

It’s been a pleasure to keep the morale up on board Arcadia by giving my colleagues some entertainment. I have a great friendship group but recognise during these strange times not everyone does. I wanted to help people feel connected and supported whilst we have less ship’s company on board.

Tell us a bit about what you’ve been doing on board.

Recently we’ve been hosting daily Bingo and Karaoke and playing PlayStation games. We also ran  tournaments including darts, table tennis, table football and pool. I’m very pleased to say that there’s a big interest in all events.

It wasn’t just me though, there’s a whole team who’ve made this happen. My main role was to support the hosts with any equipment and to set the places needed to help the events happen as best they can. It’s taken great team work to create entertaining experiences for everyone whilst following all guidance to ensure everyone is kept safe and well.

What’s been your favourite and most successful events/activities on board?

I’ve really enjoyed the quiz nights, but I also really enjoy darts with my colleagues in the evening. Participating in all of the tournaments has been great.

As a result of Mincho’s dedication and passion to support his colleagues during uncertain times we’re pleased to announce he was awarded our HESS Hero award. Congratulations!
