The theme for this years National Inclusion week was ‘Each One Reach One’, and back in September Spectrum & Athena encouraged colleagues to take just one action to learn more about inclusion.

In addition to the resources shared there were a series of webinars run by Inclusive Employers, who Carnival UK are partnered with, covering a wide variety of topics including Anti-Racism and Psychological Safety.

If you weren’t able to attend any of the webinars available recordings are now available below.

Here’s what a few of you had to say about National Inclusion week this year, and the webinars you attended.

“With everything going on around us, it’s easy to lose sight of how important Inclusion is to all of us and to Carnival UK, yet it’s central to how we weather this storm and come back stronger.

Being a workplace that welcomes and nurtures everyone equally is critical to our ongoing success and putting a spotlight on Inclusion in the way what we have I’m sure has brought that back into focus and reminded us of the things we personally can do to play a part in that.

I loved the catalogue of brilliant resources that was shared, to spark thoughts, broaden our outlook and help us to explore less familiar areas. Personally I also found the Each One Reach One concept really powerful. Having shared insights with others from pieces I watched and read, some great insights were shared back…. a bit like giving and receiving cool gifts that really make you think, it generated energy and talking points in our area.”

Jo Phillips , Chief People Officer

A number of our colleagues attended webinars and found them thought provoking, creating new topics of conversations to explore further with colleagues.

Katy Bateson attended ‘The Role of Psychological Safety in the Workplace’ which explored the ‘Thinking environment’ we create within our teams.

“The conversations explored how we encourage people to feel safe to be honest and open and to have the space and time to think. Within the webinars there are further resources recommended for anyone who would like to learn more about a topic. In this instance it was Nancy Kline’s ‘Time to Think’ and the concept of the ‘Thinking Environment”.

Emma Kenny joined a webinar entitled ‘Valuing different women in the workplace’.

The webinar was a really interesting conversation around intersectionality (when you identify with more than one characteristic, eg. female and bi-sexual) and how stereotypes may play out in how we interact with each other in the workplace through unconscious bias.

The webinar was a conversation between three people from a different industry discussing their experiences. They covered what their businesses are doing to reduce bias, and how to encourage colleagues to speak up and identify where there may be stereotypes at play. It really helped to hear live examples to provide context around the discussion.

Emma Kenny, Marketing and Operations Senior Manager

“I’m delighted that even while we all work virtually that we were still able to celebrate Inclusion Week in fitting style and mark what is such an important subject for us all.”

Simon Palethorpe, Carnival UK President

Take time to watch a webinar and share a learning at an upcoming team meeting, or zoom catch up with a colleague. We hope you find the content provides a refreshing way of thinking and understanding how we can be more inclusive.
