Watching and being part of the construction of a ship over so many months, it’s easy to see how you might get attached and just how bitter sweet the handover to the brand must be. A real sense of achievement, particularly in these challenging times, combined with a sad farewell to an old and familiar friend.
In the video clip below, Elena Majoli, Outfitting Inspector in Monfalcone shares just what Enchanted Princess meant to her in a very personal and emotional tribute. This letter was first read by Elena to those she had worked closely with during the construction of Enchanted Princess, both Corporate Shipbuilding and brand colleagues, on the morning of delivery. Elena was then asked by Jan Swartz, President of Princess Cruises, to capture the letter on video so it could be shared and we’re glad she did:
When asked what motivated Elena to put pen to paper, she said:
“I’ve worked for Corporate Shipbuilding since 2006 and in that time been involved in several deliveries, however Enchanted was the most “emotionally challenging” due to the Covid-19 situation, lock-down, restrictions etc. During the last seven months, our social life has been changed completely in not allowing a proper relationship with the owner, crew, shipyard and colleagues – it’s not easy when you have to keep a social distance, wear masks and shift working hours.
However, despite all these restrictions, I personally believe that an incredible atmosphere has been developed within the entire team and parties involved on the construction of Enchanted, becoming one of the most beautiful ships ever built within our Corporation.“
Thank you for sharing Elena!
