UKHarvest food rescue and education charity have sent a ‘thank you in numbers’, to show the impact Carnival UK have made with the food donations received since the start of lock down.

You may have seen our previous articles on donations from Cunard and P&O Cruises back in April, but since those we’ve continued to donate huge food stocks to support those in need over these difficult months.

Since the start of lock down we’ve donated 161 tonnes of fresh, frozen and dry food produce which has been re-distributed as 576,786 meals during the lock down period – and this is just a snapshot of where we are today – we continue to steadily deliver more food via the warehouse in Southampton.

“I hope you are able to share how brilliant your team have been to avoid such a potential food waste disaster and turn it into something so positive with such a tangible impact – Thank you!” UKHarvest

UKHarvest currently rescue food from over 100 donors and re-distribute it to around 150 recipients across the South Coast with a growing waiting list which is a mix of homeless shelters and charities, housing associations, women’s refuges, youth groups and schools with vulnerable children as well as community kitchens such as the Real Junk Food project and Trash Kitchen who run pay as feel cafes.

Receiving this food makes such an immediate difference to each of these charities.
