To sustain and protect our business for the future, we’ve reviewed our organisational structure and changed our ways of working. Yesterday marked the first day of our new baseline working pattern of Monday – Thursday, with tomorrow being the first official non-working Friday. Although a result of difficult decisions, the new three-day weekend is an opportunity for us to bring positive change to our lives.

Here’s seven ways to make the most of your seven extra hours:

  1. Enjoy some downtime – it’s been a difficult few months so take some time to rest and recharge. Switch off your tech and take a walk with the family, read a book, listen to music, exercise or simply keep hitting the snooze button!
  2. Start something new – if you’ve always wanted to learn a new skill, now’s your opportunity. Try your hand at crafting, gardening, learn a new language or how to play a musical instrument. Look out for online groups to support your new hobby.
  3. Focus on the future – set yourself personal and professional goals for the short and long term and use your Friday to start working towards these.
  4. Catch up with colleagues – as Friday will be a non-working day for most of us, why not meet colleagues for a catch up? Just remember to adhere to the current government guidelines!
  5. Stop multi-tasking – if you’ve been juggling work with home-schooling and/or caring responsibilities, use your Friday to focus on your most important task.
  6. Volunteercheck social media for opportunities to support local charities and your community. Check in on a neighbour or friend who might need some extra support.
  7. Do your ‘to-do’ list – use your extra day to tick off jobs and tasks that you’ve not been able to get to, whether that’s DIY or personal admin. It’s a real sense of achievement to see a list get smaller!

Remember to make a plan – before you know it, Monday’s arrived and you’ll wonder where the weekend has gone! Make the most of your extra day by making a plan and having things to look forward to.
