As the construction of Iona continues, today (18 June 2020) was a key milestone for the vessel with the first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering operations taking place in Bremerhaven.
Andrea Velasco, Building Manager for Papenburg captured this photograph which shows the LNG bunkering ship alongside and connected to Iona with a distance pontoon in place between the two vessels which is normal for this procedure.
The first step is to gas up the tanks which is then followed by the pumping of the real liquid, as soon as it is completed the real LNG pumping will start. LNG trials are planned to take place on 21 June 2020.
